I went food shopping on Sunday night and this was the first time I saw cherries for sale. I picked up a pack (they come in plastic containers, which is frustrating for my eco-sensibility), turned it over to check that the ones on the bottom weren't rotting or anything funky, and as I went to put it back, the container opened up and the cherries spilled all over the floor.
Great.
I let out a sigh and resigned myself to picking up several dozen of the little fruits. Tack this on to the fact that my phone stopped working that morning, I took a nap in the parking lot of the AU (phone provider) store because I was so tired from the previous night, and then upon waking I started driving too soon and in a misty state ran a red light, it was just one more thing that I didn't necessarily need.
But it wasn't so bad. Because a fellow shopper crouched down to help me pick up the fallen cherries. It was a small and simple gesture, but so kind. So to whoever you were, thanks for saving a little bit of my day.

I hope you put them back on the shelf.
That's the question that will keep my readers enthralled.
